Simply Peace…

view from top.Peace

This photo was taken 4 short days ago…a VIEW FROM THE  TOP of Pine Mountain.  By the afternoon, the snow was gone. Today we have rain, and green grass peeking through.  Brings to mind this passage:

Isaiah 55:10-12

New International Version (NIV)

10 As the rain and the snow
    come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
    without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
    so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
    It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
    and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
12 You will go out in joy
    and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and hills
    will burst into song before you,
and all the trees of the field
    will clap their hands.

HIS WORD will feed us… and bring joy and peace.

I’m reading John 14 this morning….so much comfort in there.

Verse 27:  (Jesus’s own words) “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.”

We so easily get caught up in this world… fretting about the details that have no eternal value. This world teaches us to accumulate, be self-sufficient. It becomes a constant struggle.  When we surrender to HIM….become dependent on HIM, that is when we have the opportunity to experience real peace.

“The truth is that self-sufficiency is a myth perpetuated by pride and temporary success. Health and wealth can disappear instantly, as can life itself. Rejoice in your insufficiency, knowing that My Power is made perfect in weakness.”   Sarah Young

Psalm 37:4  “Delight yourself in the Lord; and He will give you the desires of your heart”

My desire?  I don’t want to die of thirst.

                                      Rain down Lord;  REIGN in my soul.

Bear Feet!

This online photo made me laugh out loud!  I can’t wait to grab my BARE feet and head out to some green grass!  With snow flurries still in our Northwoods forecast, it will be a while yet.

Some of my favorite journeys are simple hikes… out to the woods, along a beach…. and if the weather allows for bare feet, it’s all the better.  (It’s healthy!)

 There is an awareness. Cool grass. Warm sand. Soaking into your soles, and up through your soul.  Connecting Earth to Heaven.

Growing up with my three sisters, our shoes waited in the back hall from the last day of school until the last day of summer.  (OK, Sunday mornings were the exception.)  But even trips to the store would find us with painted on sandals!  We were a creative bunch who loved bare feet.

Anytime we had to walk a distance somewhere, we would burst into our hiking song. Two of us singing the low part harmony, and the other two the main song.  We still do that.  With one sister singing her part, loudly, from heaven for the past 19 years. We hike. We sing. We connect earth to heaven.

                    The Hiking Song

A hiking we go on a long winding trail, so keep on moving along.

(harmony)  We hike a long,  long,  long,   so keep moving along.

We’ll soon reach the end of a long winding trail, so keep on moving along.

We hike a long,    long,    long,               so keep moving along.

Look up, not down; wear a smile not a frown; raise your voice in a happy song!

A hiking we go on a long winding trail, so keep on moooving alooooong.

We hike a long,     long,   long,           so keep mooooving alooooong.

Journey on. Raise your voice. Tear down the walls around your soul,

                                                                      and walk barefoot on life.

Deuteronomy 11:21-22

like the days of the heavens above the earth.
carefully keep all these commandments which I command you to do—to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, and to hold fast to Him—

…and the birds SING!

fx- SONG! DSC_3038

This past Friday we were given an April shower, in the form of SNOW!  About 8″ of it.  I “planted” seeds into the feeders and was blessed with a flurry of feathered blossoms all day long.  I kept busy with my camera. Love those birds. So sweet. Today the sun is shining (for the moment) and they are singing!

This song came to mind, written over 100 years ago.  I love how things penned so long ago can still be on the tips of our tongues!

  1. Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
    Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heav’n and home,
    When Jesus is my portion? My constant Friend is He:
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

    • Refrain:
      I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free,
      For His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
  2. “Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,
    And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
    Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
  3. Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
    When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
    I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
    His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.

In Jesus’s own words He tells us “Are not five sparrows sold for two cents? And yet not one of them is forgotten before God. Do not fear; you are of more value than many sparrows.”  Luke 12:6-7

How about that for comfort?!  Of course He doesn’t mean that we will have easy sailing on this earth, BUT we do have the assurance that He will journey with us, and never leave us. Eternity with Him is our reality, whenever that day comes.  For now…we sing.

A side note here, about our love for creation, and the command to care for it:

I found this gentle web site. Very nice.

Riding the Rails

I am reminded  often of railroad tracks (perhaps because on sleepless nights, I can hear the 2:30 am distant whistle?)…. and how it is an image of life. TWO rails…heading in the same direction, SIMULTANEOUSLY.  Life can be both brutal and beautiful at the same time.  It is that way for most of us. Hard issues to deal with, yet a thankful heart for so much more!  It is no simple thing to ride these rails, one foot on each (metaphorically, of course), and stay focused on what is good, and right, and beautiful. We can trust God to help us deal with that other rail, knowing that He holds only good around the corner, even when it doesn’t feel that way at the moment. Let me encourage you, wherever you might be on YOUR journey, to hang in there!  Keep moving forward, yet enjoy the view out your window today– and watch for the wonder that really is there.

“…to comfort all who mourn, provide for those who grieve, to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of His splendor. ”  Isaiah 61:3
